KDE rpms install instructions
| |
First i would like to
advise that we do recommend smart as the
install/update/remove tool.
| |
To
upgrade kde you must first add the needed urpmi repositories
main, contrib, plf-free
and plf-non-free from the site Easyurpmi. |
| |
Then add MDE
repository, in a console as root enter:
urpmi.addmedia
--update MDE http://www.mde.djura.org/2008.1_64/RPMS with hdlist.cz
| |
Note:
instead
using the file hdlist.cz you can optionally use the
file synthesis.hdlist.cz
| |
that will
take much less time to download however haves less information
| |
After
the repositories are added, install smart, in a
console as root type: urpmi smart-gui
Now
you are ready to start upgrading kde, in a console just type "smart-root"
and select the packages
you want to
upgrade, or you can just use the default tool rpmdrake.
| |
But
instead you can in a console as root enter the command "urpmi
--auto-select" that will
auto select and install
all upgradable packages. Remember that when upgrading between versions
(and said
version not release), it can appear some problems like having some
toolbar menus repeated.
In this case we recommend
to first remove the installed kde version by running the mentioned tool
smart
or rpmdrake, or instead in a console as root run "urpme
lib64kdecore4".
After kde packages are removed you don“t need to leave the session, you
can install the new kde rpms. |
| However
you can instead as root run the command "init 3"
that will put you in text mode, from there |
you can run "urpmi --auto-select" that will auto
select and install the packages, after installing |
the rpms, type "init 5" that will put you
back in graphic mode or simply just reboot the system. |
| |
Also instead entering "init 3" text mode, you can
for example logout kde sesion and enter a |
| ICEwm
session and from a console as root enter "urpmi --auto-select"
or just run rpmdrake and |
select the packages you wish to install, if choosing to use
rpmdrake we recommend to select the |
| kde
suite wrappers packages (ie. kdelibs-suite, kdebase-suite,
kdemultimedia-suite, etc), |
since they will auto select the restant packages of that kde module in
question. |
| |
If still having any doubts, you can enter IRC (using for example the
irc clients kvirc or xChat), connect |
to a Freenode server (ie. irc.freenode.net), enter channel #MDE and ask
us any question directly. |
| |
| Good
luck and have fun :) |
